| This activity is a good starting point for QCA 2B Plants and Animals in the Local Environment and QCA 2C Variation. It is a half day activity and combines well with The Boot Story.
Working in small groups with an adult to supervise, the children are shown how to use the correct equipment to carefully collect the small animals living in the pond.
These animals are closely observed and identified before being released back to their homes. Follow up work can include sorting into groups according to identifiable similarities such as number of legs, movement or size. The emphasis is on care for the living animals and also for their own safety around the pond.
Please note that pond dipping is only available during the warmer spring and summer months.
