| In just one day we can cover many of the learning objectives of QCA 3D Rocks and Soils!
Watch a volcano erupt, learn how rocks are made with a hands on demonstration, handle, discuss and sort rocks, spot rocks being used all around us, design and carry out an experiment to choose the best rock for a roof.
Go on a walk in the nature reserve looking at soil, working out how it’s made and what it’s made from. Be prepared to get your hands dirty! Collect samples of soils and then separate them using professional sieves. Compare drainage of different types of soils by racing water through them!
If you would prefer to do so the rock investigation can be extended along the materials theme with a visit to the working quarry to see the extraction of sand and how it is sorted ready for sale. If you choose this aspect of the day you must let us know when making our booking. Or, we can follow a trail in the village spotting materials used in the buildings.
