Austerfield Field Study Center are in Partnership with Doncaster Astronomical Society to bring Astronomy to this site.
A new observatory has been built at Austerfield Field Centre. This new venture links in with our ITC suite. We try and take advantage of Special Events such as an Eclipse, Visits by Comets, a Clear Night Sky! This allows the children to see a special event which they may never see again. The aim is to give them an appreciation of what can be seen in the Night Sky and it is hoped that children will become aware of the many objects that they can see for themselves.
Austerfield Study Centre and Doncaster Astronomical Society (using specifically designed solar telescopes) viewed the Transit of Venus and broadcast it live on this web page. A number of children were lucky enough to see this rare event using optical equipment specifically designed for this application.
(Never look at the sun. Never point telescopes or binoculars at the sun. You can damage your eyes, even if you use filters)
